West Ashley Inside
the Mark Clark. Home to Charlestowne Landing, the first
English settlement in South Carolina, West Ashley abounds in history
and culture. Some of its older neighborhoods border the Intracoastal
Waterway and Coburg Creek. Newer townhouse and condominium developments,
such as the Ripley Light Yacht Club and The Albermarle, have been
built along the Ashley River with views of downtown Charleston,
the Ashley River, and Charleston Harbor. All of the neighborhoods
within this area are only minutes to downtown Charleston.
West Ashley Outside
the Mark Clark. With many new neighborhoods being developed
in this area, it might be hard to choose where to live. Each neighborhood
offers residents unique features such as the country setting of
Hickory
Farms, the deep-water access of Ashland Plantation, and the golf
club living of Shadowmoss. This area includes Bon Secours-St. Francis
Hospital, a state of the art medical center located just north of
the Mark Clark expressway. As you travel south on Highway 17 into
rural West Ashley, the neighborhoods generally offer larger lots
and floor plans as compared to the West Ashley neighborhoods located
closer to downtown Charleston. Many properties within the communities
of Meggett, Younges Island, and the gated community of Stono Plantation,
boast views of the Intracoastal Waterway, the Stono River, and Wadmalaw
Sound.
