Berkeley
County / Goose Creek / Moncks Corner. Home to the cities
of Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Hanahan, and portions of Summerville,
Berkeley County’s residential living options are wide-ranging.
The Goose Creek area has been inhabited since the 1600’s.
Today it is home to over 30,000 people, with many neighborhoods
located near the Goose Creek reservoir. Perhaps the best known community
within Goose Creek is the golf-oriented Crowfield Plantation, featuring
24 sub-neighborhoods within its boundaries. Hanahan is a small town
that sits north of the Charleston Naval Weapons Station and just
west of the Cooper River. Its close proximity to both Charleston
and North Charleston provides residents with convenient access to
employment, shopping, restaurants, and activities. Rural sections
of Berkeley County offer options for gated communities, including
some featuring large deep-water lots.
Dorchester County
and Summerville. Encompassing 546 square miles, Dorchester
County has seen significant population growth due to its climate,
access to surrounding areas, and affordability. Downtown Summerville,
known affectionately to many as “Flower Town”, is the
county’s focal point. However, the city limits of the City
of Summerville also extend into both Charleston County and Berkeley
County. Summerville and the surrounding areas are home to over fifty
subdivisions and
twenty apartment complexes. Residents thus have numerous options.
Baker’s Landing, featuring a community dock with deep-water
access, is located between Ashley River Road and Dorchester Road.
Ashborough East, known for its brick homes and manicured lawns,
is one of the area’s newer neighborhoods. Legend Oaks, a golf
oriented community, consists of several subdivisions including Province,
with homes from 1650 to 3300 square feet, and The Club, a master
planned community with home sites that have views of the golf course,
ponds, or nature preserves.
North Charleston
Inside the Mark Clark. In an effort to preserve the history
of old naval base and surrounding neighborhoods, and to encourage
community redevelopment, the Noisette Company is in the process
of redeveloping 3,000 acres along the Cooper River into a master-planned
“new urban” community. The East Montague/Park Circle
neighborhoods are located within close proximity to the Noisette
project and are anticipated to benefit from the redevelopment process.
Several new businesses have moved into this area, and the City of
North Charleston has planned significant streetscape improvements
to East Montague’s old business district.
North
Charleston Outside the Mark Clark. Home to the Charleston
International Airport and the ever-growing Rivers Avenue shopping
district, residents in this area of North Charleston can enjoy convenient
access to these and other amenities. Coosaw Creek, a gated community
with its own golf course, is one of the area’s signature communities.
The construction of several new neighborhoods continues within Westcott
Plantation, located off Dorchester Road, with many homes located
along the City of North Charleston’s Westcott Plantation public
golf course. Among the many new developments, the Reverie on the
Ashley is notable for being one of the few neighborhoods in North
Charleston to offer luxury waterfront condominiums.
