Downtown Charleston Above Crosstown. Home to The Citadel and Hampton Park, this area continues to witness significant urban revitalization. Many homes in Wagener Terrace, the community located immediately adjacent to The Citadel, have been renovated by young buyers who want to live close to downtown. Residents enjoy easy access to the “Joe”, the ever-popular baseball stadium for the Charleston Riverdogs, as well as Citadel basketball and football games. Longborough and Lowndes Point are new single-family developments located on the Ashley River. The Bristol, a high-end condominium project overlooking the Ashley River just north of the Ashley River bridges, features easy access to its own deep water marina.

Downtown Charleston Below Crosstown. Home to many historic residences and buildings, this area is the heart of the Charleston metro area. Charleston’s urban design continues to be studied by urban planners around the world. Charleston is a true pedestrian city, with fine restaurants, museums, residences, commercial offices, retailers, churches and art galleries, all located within walking distance of one another. This area is also home to the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina. Locals know that downtown Charleston’s residential life is made up of several distinct communities such as Cannonborough, Elliotborough, Wraggsborough, Ansonborough, and the French Quarter. As a general proposition, the city’s most prestigious neighborhoods, including the antebellum mansions that line East Bay Street and South Battery, are located “South of Broad”.
